Usually, paper wasps are passive-aggressive (unlike yellow jackets and hornets) and eliminating their nest is required, if it’s close to your property and it imposes a risk.


Don’t position yourself beneath a paper wasp nest because it’ll escalate probability of being stung.


Pause one day to assure the colony is eliminated before dislodging (grind and pull down) the nest

A paper wasp nest should be extracted to avoid bothersome ants, (carpet) beetles and various insects, mainly to avert foreign wasps from establishing a fresh nest at the site.


Nearly all wasps and hornet insecticide sprays have pyrethroid that eliminates them instantly.

If nests are settled in holes then counteract it by wafting insecticide dust inside the hole.


Instructions for wasp management


  • Locate the nest
  • Determine the breed of wasp before removing the wasps
  • Predawn or twilight are ideal for wasp removal because the colony will be quiescent
  • Don’t illuminate light straight at a nest. Wasps can’t decipher red so use red cellophane in a flashlight to avert wasps from being drawn to light
  • Wear befitting attire like gloves, long sleeved shirt, pants, shoes and socks to shield skin from a wasp sting. Swathing the cuffs and neck of a shirt, and ankles of pants is recommendable for extra security
  • June is ideal for wasp management because a colony is smaller
  • Pragmatically adhere to instructions of the pesticide product before applying it
  • Don’t permit transit (people and pets) near the treated sites until it desiccates
  • Don’t strike a wasp when it’s atop your skin to avert a wasp sting
  • Don’t enclose a nest until the wasp colony is exterminated
